On July 19, 2001, the Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County unexpectedly lost one of our most dedicated members. Sascha Grothe joined the Youth Orchestra in the fall of 1999 just after entering the 7th grade. As a musician Sascha excelled as a trombonist, performing with the Symphony Orchestra for two years, and had just been accepted into the Philharmonic Orchestra.
Sascha's love for music and dedication to the Youth Orchestra made him an inspiration to many fellow artists. He was a straight-A student in the International Baccalaureate Program at Atlantic High School, band member and a leader amongst his peers - always supporting their efforts with his enthusiasm and encouragement.
In his memory, a scholarship will be awarded to a returning orchestra musician who has shown exceptional musicianship and dedicated participation within the Youth Orchestra program. This scholarship will cover the costs of annual membership tuition plus Summer Camp tuition for the following academic year.
The Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County is proud to be able to honor Sascha's memory in facilitating this scholarship. Funding is provided through the Sascha M. Grothe Memorial Fund which generously supports the Youth Orchestra's overall program.
